CamboDHRRA Team Conducting Baseline Survey for SMART-RICE Carbon Credit Initiative

The CamboDHRRA team is currently conducting a farmer-level baseline survey in Prey Kabbas District, Takeo Province, as part of the SMART-RICE initiative on carbon credit and sustainable rice cultivation.
The survey focuses on understanding current rice farming practices, irrigation and water management, production conditions, and farmers’ experiences. The information collected will help assess the potential for adopting Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) practices, which can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from rice cultivation while supporting efficient water use and climate-smart agriculture.
As part of the assignment, CamboDHRRA is engaging with approximately 150 rice farmers and collecting baseline information covering the 2023–2025 crop years. The data will support project feasibility assessment, baseline risk assessment, and the development of a quality-checked database for future carbon project development.
Through this work, CamboDHRRA is contributing to efforts to promote climate-smart rice production, sustainable water management, reduced agricultural emissions, and new opportunities for farmers through carbon finance.
